Course Content
THIS COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO THREE PHASES OF BILITERACY DEVELOPMENT
Direct Experience
Learn how to provide immersive, hands-on experiences that lay the foundation for language acquisition. This phase focuses on multisensory learning and active participation, fostering engagement through activities like observation and exploration. You’ll discover how to use inquiry-based instruction, rich language modeling, and interactive environments to create meaningful learning moments.
Writing about Experiences
Delve into the process of turning direct experiences into written expression. In this phase, you’ll learn how to scaffold writing, guide shared writing experiences, and foster independent writing in young children. We emphasize the importance of storytelling, verbal scaffolding, and daily writing practices that build children’s confidence and linguistic abilities.
Reading about Experiences
Explore how reading can reinforce learning by connecting books to children's experiences. You'll understand how to use books as mirrors of children’s lives and scaffold partner-based conversations to enhance comprehension, critical thinking, and language development.
"Biliteracy in Action" is a dynamic, 10-lesson, 5-hour self-paced course designed
to help you master the phases of biliteracy development and give you all the
strategies you need to watch your students blossom across languages!
